On my turntable: Bay City Rollers - Once Upon A Star

Like The Beatles' catalog, the import and domestic versions of Bay City Rollers albums differed significantly. Once Upon a Star (1975), for example, was not even released in the States, although most of the songs did show up on the first two U.S. LPs. Like most pre-teen BCR fans, I learned of albums like Once Upon A Star from reading 16 magazine. Yes, I read 16 when I was a kid, and I still insist I did not know it was a magazine for girls. But enough about that.

This particular copy of Star was purchased brand new just last year at a local shop (Hymie's). Listening to it now, with a new stylus on my turntable, re-affirms my belief that vinyl played on a quality turntable with a good cartridge will provide the most satisfying music experience (outside of live performance). I've never heard this album sound so good.

Personal faves: "The Disco Kid", and "Rock and Roll Honeymoon", which features then-bassist Alan Longmuir on a rare lead vocal (also an example of a track that did not get released on any of the U.S. LPs).
