"Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act"

I swear I didn't make this up. With her new "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act", Michele Bachmann is fighting the fight to save the standard light bulb from extinction. Michele sure knows how to pick her battles. Her consituents must be so proud. Thanks to Jay for sending me this.

(from startribune.com):

WASHINGTON - How many members of Congress does it take to change a light bulb? Americans may soon find out, courtesy of a contrarian piece of legislation introduced this month by Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota.

Titled the "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act," the bill seeks to repeal the nationwide phase-out of conventional light bulbs, the kind that have been used for more than a century -- pretty much since the invention of the incandescent light bulb. Bachmann, a first-term Republican, is challenging the nation's embrace of energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights, saying the government has no business telling consumers what kind of light bulbs they can buy.

"This is an issue of science over fads and fashions," Bachmann said in an interview Tuesday. "Congress tends to jump on whatever the current buzz is in the 24-hour news cycle, " Bachmann said.

Her bill, the first challenge of its kind, raises safety questions about the small amounts of mercury in fluorescent lights. It also lands her squarely in the middle of the debate over global warming. In recent remarks to a gathering of Sherburne County Republicans -- reported in the West Sherburne Tribune -- Bachmann called any human connection to global warming "voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax."

Good for Ms Bachman. Congress should not be able to tell us what type of light bulb we can use.

The flickering of these
compact flourescent light bulbs can be a trigger for migraines.

Pretty soon, Congress will tell us when we can breath, to help reduce "greenhouse gases."

They keep this crap up, we won't have any rights left.

Now why would Michelle Bachmann want to waste her time advocating for any sort of transportation/infrastructure funding for a bridge that was closed for safety reasons in HER district when she can spend her time advocating for really IMPORTANT issues such as the right to use incandescent light bulbs?

The Highway 23 bridge will cost $30 to $35 million to replace and she has stated that she will not seek any earmarks from the transportation bill to go toward repairing the bridge.

It's so nice to see that she's worried about people's rights....not the right to marry who they chose and have legal and health benefits for one another...but darn it--even the gays will be able to chose incandescent bulbs! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

I think it is actually ok. It's like a rotten little kid that is bugging her parents. "Michelle, hun, why dont you go worry about light bulbs and leave Mom and Dad alone... we are busy trying to figure out how to get out of this stupid war."

I would rather have her focused on this shit than having her actually trying to matter.

I appreciate Ms Bachman for doing this. The Government can stay out of my house. I will buy what kind of light bulb I want. They already shrunk my toilet but now everybody flushes more than once so what good did that stupid regulation do? People now use more water. How can you all be so stupid as to not be enraged that the Gov. is telling you what you can buy and can't buy. The mercury light bulb will cause more problems than it is supposedly tring to solve. And by the way - global warming is not man made - it is just a ploy to controll our behavior like telling us what light bulb to buy.
